My experience

I have worked as a counsellor for many years with people who have come with a wide variety of different issues, in particular bereavement and loss, as well as anxiety and difficult feelings, stress, family and relationship problems, health issues, depression, and low self-esteem. I have worked for many years as a bereavement counsellor at Southwark Carers in South London. I have also worked with people facing mental distress at MIND, and with primary age children as a play therapist at Place2Be.

How I work

I aim to create a safe and non-judgemental place in which you can express and explore your thoughts and feelings. As a counsellor I am there to support you and respect your views. My role is to help you find your own insights and understanding. 

Many of us need time for healing, for many different reasons. I understand that telling your story for the first time can be a daunting task, and by listening with careful, non-judgemental attention, I hope to offer a space for you that is safe and contained, in which healing is possible

I gained my Diploma in Person Centred Counselling at the Metanoia Institute, London, in 2006 and am a fully accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP

I am also a graduate member of the British Psychological Society. I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics.

How does Counselling work?

Working with a counsellor who is not part of your everyday life can give you the chance to explore your thoughts and feelings from a new perspective. By doing so, it may be possible for you to find a deeper understanding, acceptance and clarity, and a greater trust in yourself. 

Short term counselling usually lasts between 4 and 12 sessions.  Medium and long term work last for 6 months and longer.  It may be that you wish to explore a single problem or crisis you are experiencing right now, and by doing so improve the quality of your life. Or you may wish to work on a deeper level, and explore more of who you are. Both ways are possible, and the number of sessions we have will depend very much on what feels right for you. This is something we can explore in our initial meeting, which I offer without any obligation to continue.
